Wind and Brass

Play three chromatically adjacent major scales, at least two octaves (ascending and descending, displaying two different articulation styles), no less than 100 bpm. Arpeggios are not required but preferred.
Play ascending chromatic scale at least two octaves.
Play between 1 - 1.5 minutes of a lyricalandtechnical solo piece no lower than a grade 3 on the Texas UIL Solo & Ensemble or Florida Solo & Ensemble music lists.

Percussion

*Please state what you are performing before playing. It is recommended that all solo/etude material be selected from the literature listed below.

Play three chromatically adjacent major scales, at least two octaves, no less than 100 bpm. Include a two-octave arpeggio to the end of each major scale. This portion of the audition can be performed on marimba (preferred) or any other mallet instrument available to you.
Play between 1-1.5 mins. of a snare drum and timpani solo, no lower than a Grade 3 on the Texas UIL Solo & Ensemble or Florida Solo & Ensemble music lists.
Play between 1-1.5 mins. of at least 2 solos and/or etude on mallet instruments to display both two-mallet and four-mallet technique. Marimba is the preferred instrument for at least one of your solos.
Each person auditioning can also add drum set as a BONUS part of their audition. If an auditionee chooses to submit an audition on drum set, this portion of the audition must include:
- Play a medium tempo swing (120-140 BPM)
- Play an up-tempo swing (200BPM)
- Play a Bossa Nova, Samba and Funk

Voice

Prepare two songs of contrasting styles, tempos, or languages that demonstrate your current abilities. Consider asking your teacher for song ideas but the State-Solo List is a great resource to begin with (click on "required music" for a list by voice part). One of the songs may be from the jazz, folk, or musical theatre genre. A brief sight-singing and or aural recall excerpt may be asked of you. An accompanist will be provided so please bring a copy of your music for them.

Piano

Prepare two contrasting solo piano pieces from the standard repertoire.

Suggested repertoire:

A prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier
A movement from a Classical Sonata
A piece by Schumann, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn, or Debussy

Strings

Prepare two contrasting pieces or movements no longer than 10 minutes combined. Accompanists are welcome but are not necessary or expected. A major scale across the whole range of your instrument may also be asked.

Art

Please send a digital portfolio containing at least 10 digital images of your most recent artwork. This should be in the form of a PowerPoint or PDF containing:

Clear photographs of recent artwork, including details or alternate views as needed. Work must be identified by title, date, medium and size.
A clearly written, thoughtful statement discussing the student’s efforts to explore media, themes, and address artistic challenges. The statement should be 300-500 words, in Times New Roman 12pt font, docx format. .

Your portfolio and statement must be uploaded to a Google Drive that will be sent via email after form submission.

*Please note that no physical audition will take place. Faculty will review the digital portfolio/statement and then reach out regarding your submissions.

Acting

Prepare and memorize two monologues contrasting in mood and style for an audition. One monologue must be classical (preferably Shakespeare) and the other contemporary. Pieces should be from acceptable, published works and may not be stand-up routines, screenplays or original works. Each monologue should last about a minute.
Bring a brief resume to the audition listing productions in which the applicant appeared and the specific roles played; the place or organization where the production was produced; other positions held in theatre productions, such as crew or marketing; and any awards or honors received.

Acting-Virtual Audition

Design and Technical

Applicants for design and technical consideration must submit a brief resume listing:

Productions in which the application has been responsible for an aspect of design, such as set, costume or lighting.
Specific work performed.
Place or organization where the production was produced.
Any awards or honors received.
